Off Brand Fashionista is based in Montreal and run by artist and designer Michelle Stanclik. Their work characterized by playful colour schemes, intricate surface design, vintage silhouettes, and an all-over whimsical vibe. They received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Fashion/Textiles from NSCAD University. This is where they focused on the transformative quality of secondhand materials. They examined the concept of valued labor through mending as a reciprocation of care. This practice serves as a way to celebrate what is already present in our lives and challenge the culture of disposability in current trend cycles. Off Brand Fashionista uses almost entirely secondhand materials that are thoughtfully curated to create magical pieces that stop shows, start conversations, and ultimately spark joy for all those who wear it.
